‘Yan Matan Arewa’ Hackathon (Northern Girls Hackathon)

The International day of the girl child comes up Today the 11th of October 2019, with the theme, Girlforce: Unscripted, Unstopable. The observation supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender.

This inequality includes areas such as access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and forced child marriage.
The celebration of the day also “reflects the successful emergence of girls and young women as a distinct cohort in development policy, programming, campaigning and research.

Preston Development foundation in line with the celebration took out time yesterday the 10th of  October at Barcelona hotel to mark the day with a hackthon for northern Girls, giving them the opportunity to brainstorm  find solutions to problems to the problems facing them. In an interview with Dr Nkem Ene, the chairperson, she said it was high time women take charge of their life.The days  where women were spoken for is gone. She said now women are making waves in the global space in science and technology and that cannot be ignored. Preston development foundation caters for women across board, empowering them to make informed decisions that enable them live purposeful lives.
She said for the northern Girls Hackathon they considered girls of age 14-19 who will be  profereing solutions to problems they identify themselves.while talking to Dr Oluwatobi Mogbojuri, who is in the team of Preston development foundation, he said that the northern girls are as intelligent as their counterparts in other regions as against what we think and the opportunity to showcase that is given by this hackthon ideas that would be graded. For ideas that that are viable, they will be implemented and the girls will go for internship and further be mentored by their partners.  Mrs Mansurah abubakar Raji  project  manager preston development foundation said prizes would also be awarded, the best idea goes with a laptop.
